FAQs

1. What is HNCDrugResDb?

HNCDrugResDb is a resource of manually curated data on differentially expressed mRNAs, proteins, post-translational modifications, miRNAs, and lncRNAs from publicly available research articles related to Head and neck cancer drug resistance. It includes data from 58 HNC cell lines resistant to 14 anti-cancer drugs.

2. Why HNCDrugResDb?

Head and neck cancer is the seventh most common type of cancer worldwide, which can arise at various parts of the upper aerodigestive tract. Despite effective treatment modalities, many patients develop resistance to treatment after an initial response, which is a major obstacle in the success of cancer therapy. Cancer cells adapt various mechanisms to overcome the cytotoxic effect of drugs by altering the expression of genes, proteins, and activating alternative pathways. Recent studies have shown that miRNAs and lncRNAs play a crucial role in drug resistance by targeting genes involved in drug resistance. Understanding the underlying molecular alterations and pathways involved in drug resistance is essential to tackle it. Therefore, we have compiled all altered molecules involved in HNC drug resistance upon treatment with frontline anti-cancer drugs, including both driver and differentially expressed molecules in drug resistance.

3. How to search the data?

We provide a user-friendly option for accessing data from HNCDrugResDb through Browse, Query and Pathway explorer. In the Browse interface, users can retrieve data by selecting drug names, cancer types, or molecule types. The Query interface provide an option to input the mRNAs (provide Gene ID/Gene Symbol), proteins (provide Gene ID/Gene Symbol), miRNAs (miRBase accession), and lncRNAs (provide Gene ID/Gene Symbol) of interest to identify their role in HNC drug resistance. Users can explore the signaling pathways associated with drug resistance using the pathway explorer. Additionally, the Drug Resistance Analysis Module allows users to predict the likelihood of drug resistance by inputting lists of differentially expressed proteins/mRNAs from both HNC patients and cell lines.

4. How to download the HNCDrugResDb data?

HNCDrugResDb offers the ability to download results from the Browse, Query, Pathway Explorer, and Drug Resistance Analysis tools individually. If you wish to access all the data in a comprehensive manner, please reach out to us through the "Contact Us" option.
